The existing tiles, felt and battens were removed, allowing the roof to be rebuilt with a new breathable membrane, pressure-treated battens and new roof tiles. The installation was completed with modern dry ridge and dry verge systems for a clean, mechanically fixed finish around the ridge and roof edges.

This project involved more than replacing the visible roof tiles. We removed the existing tiles, felt and battens, allowing the new roof covering to be installed as a complete system rather than simply replacing the outermost layer.
A new breathable roofing membrane was installed, followed by pressure-treated battens and the new roof tiles. Dry ridge and dry verge systems were then used to complete the roof.

For this project, the existing tiles were removed along with the old roofing felt and battens. This created the base required for the new roofing system to be installed.
There is an important difference between carrying out a localised roof repair and undertaking a complete replacement like this one. With a full replacement, the existing roof covering is removed so the membrane, battens and new tiles can form part of one newly installed roofing system.

Once the existing roof covering had been removed, we installed a new breathable roofing membrane followed by pressure-treated timber battens.
A roof is more than the tiles you can see. The membrane, battens, roof covering and detailing at the ridge and verge all work together. On this Midleton project, each of those elements formed part of the new installation.

THE PROJECT, EXPLAINED
The new tiled roof was completed using both a dry ridge system and a dry verge system.
Dry ridge mechanically secures the ridge tiles along the highest point of the roof rather than relying on traditional exposed mortar as the primary fixing method. Dry verge applies the same modern approach around the applicable tile edges at the gable ends of the roof.
Together, they provide a neat mortar-free finish to these important areas of the new roof.
